Elon Musk has tweeted a the poll on whether or not he should step down as CEO and promised to abide by the result of the poll.
Musk has had a tumultuous few months as CEO, laying off thousands of Twitter’s staff and implementing massive policy changes, including reversing bans on multiple controversial people and organizations. He is the CEO of several companies, including Tesla Inc, SpaceX, The Boring Company, Neuralink, and the Musk Foundation.
Amid reports of advertisers leaving the platform and a significant drop in revenue, Musk has said that it is possible for the social networking platform to go bankrupt. Musk’s tenure as CEO has been controversial, starting with a huge round of layoffs and encouraging more staff to quit or work extremely hardcore hours. He has made fundamental changes to the platform in order to promote freedom of speech.
He has suggested that the character limit for the platform could go up to 4,000, which would fundamentally change the purpose of the platform. Although it was not clear whether any measures had been taken to prevent vote manipulation, Musk recently asked users if Donald Trump’s account should be restored.
A promise was made to only make decisions about content moderation and account reinstatement through a content moderation council with widely diverse viewpoints. Musk told company employees that the proposed council would only be advisory and that he would be the final arbiter of all decisions. It’s not clear if the council was ever established, and the existing Trust and Safety Council has also been dissolved.
