Apple Launches iOS 16.5 Update With New Sports Tab in Apple News and Pride Wallpapers

iOS

Apple launched iOS 16.5 on Thursday, along with the iPadOS 16.5 upgrade, which contains various bug fixes and new capabilities. The iOS release adds a new Pride section to the built-in wallpaper editor. While the iPadOS update does not feature the Pride wallpapers, it does include other important cosmetic upgrades. Apple revealed a number of accessibility enhancements including Assistive Access, Live Speech, and Personal Voice earlier this week to assist its handicapped or impaired product users. These features are planned to be available later this year.

With the iOS 16.5 update and the release of build number 20F66, a new set of wallpapers called Pride Celebration were published, honoring the LGBTQ+ community and culture. These wallpapers are available in light and dark modes, and feature dynamic animations to make them more colorful.

The Following and Search tabs in the Apple News app for iPhone have been consolidated into one tab. The update also adds a new Sports option to the News app, allowing iPhone users to rapidly get relevant sports news by browsing to their preferred stories, scores, and leagues.

The Sports area of Apple News now includes My Sports score and schedule cards, which allow users with immediate access to game pages and more information about particular games.

The iOS 16.5 update addresses issues with Spotlight and Podcasts in CarPlay, as well as a flaw in Screen Time settings that might have reset or failed to sync features across all Apple devices. The update is available for all iPhone models starting with the iPhone 8.

The new Pride Wallpapers are not included in the iPadOS 16.5 update, although it does have the same Sports section modifications in the Apple News app. It also includes updates for iPad users’ Spotlight and Screen Time settings. All iPad Pro devices, iPad Air 3rd generation and later, iPad 5th generation and later, and iPad mini 5th generation and later are eligible for the upgrade.

Apple’s macOS Ventura 13.4 update resolves bugs with Auto Unlock with Apple Watch, Bluetooth keyboard connection, and VoiceOver, as well as new Apple News features and Screen Time settings. A small update to watchOS 9.5 includes the new Pride Celebration watch face and bug fixes to compatible Apple Watch devices.
