Samsung to Upgrade Older Galaxy Models with Motion Photo from Galaxy S25 Ultra

Samsung’s Galaxy S25 Ultra camera-centric features, such as Motion Photo and 10-bit HDR video, may be rolled out to previous Galaxy models via a One UI upgrade. Ten new filters, including six vintage film-style filters that users can adjust with color temperature, contrast, and saturation, could be included in the update. It’s also anticipated that AI-based filters would blend in with photographic settings. It is expected that older Galaxy smartphones will get Samsung’s Motion Photo and new capabilities including the LOG format for video recording, which supports up to 8L 30fps, 3D LUT applications for precise color grading, and 10-bit HDR video, with choices for Hybrid Log Gamma and HDR10+.

Samsung Will Upgrade Older Galaxy Models with Motion Photo and Other Camera Features from the Galaxy S25 Ultra

The Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra, which debuted earlier this month as the company’s flagship phone, boasts hardware enhancements, particularly in the camera. According to a source, several of the latest camera-focused features, including Motion Photo and 10-bit HDR video, may also make their way to earlier Galaxy models. With a One UI upgrade, these should be available on the company’s older Galaxy Smartphones devices.

Older Galaxy Smartphones with New Camera Features

Samsung’s One UI 7.1 upgrade may bring the Galaxy S25 Ultra’s capabilities and more to earlier devices, according to a SamMobile report. This may include the ten new filters, six of which are vintage-looking film-style filters. Soft, Sharp, Intense, Subtle, Warm, and Dark are a few of them. It is said that older Galaxy users will also be able to adjust the saturation, contrast, and color temperature of these filters. Additionally, there are AI-based bespoke filters that are designed to blend in with the surroundings in pictures.

Samsung is reportedly catching up to Apple by introducing the LOG format for video recording. It could be able to capture videos at up to 8L 30 frames per second, which would allow 3D LUT applications to be used for precise color grading. The Galaxy S25 Ultra features 10-bit HDR video, which will soon be accessible on previous Galaxy handsets. According to reports, it offers choices for HDR10+ and Hybrid Log Gamma compatibility as well as rich images.

Additionally, the phones are said to include virtual aperture control, which allows for professional-level depth-of-field changes between F1.4 and F16. The Galaxy S25 Ultra comes with built-in 2048 and 4096 digital ND filters from the firm, which may eventually be added to previous Galaxy models.

Motion Photo, which Samsung debuted, is similar to Apple’s Live Photos in that it records both the moment and 1.5-second clips of the scene before and after the shutter is pressed. The new Single Take with Time Machine function, on the other hand, allows users to take 12-megapixel still images while recording video and records five seconds of video before the recording begins. It has been rumored that earlier Galaxy smartphones would also get these functionalities.
