The premiere video editing software by Adobe that is widely used by the film and television industries will be equipped with new artificial intelligence (AI) features, as announced by company on Monday.
Video editors can use the tools to change the lighting in a shot from midday to sunset, or generate background music by typing in a few words of text. The tools are built on Adobe Firefly, a new system introduced by the company for generating still images and text.
Adobe is experiencing a surge in interest in generative AI, thanks to the popularity of applications like OpenAI and Stability AI from Microsoft. However, legal questions arose after Getty Images sued Stability AI, alleging that the startup had used Getty’s copyrighted images to train its AI system.
Adobe, a major supplier of software for visual and video artists, is guaranteeing its customers that the Firefly system’s output will be lawfully used for commercial purposes.
With the new Adobe video tools, users can instruct the AI system to read a script and create a storyboard automatically, which can also suggest shots for a rough cut of the story. The system also includes features designed for the advertising industry, such as the ability to take footage and create different background music and scenery for showcasing the ad internationally.
The video tools are scheduled to be released later this year after Adobe completes its system testing.
