LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman said in an online post that he is leaving the OpenAI board to avoid conflicts of interest as he backs more artificial intelligence companies.
Hoffman’s venture capital firm Greylock is funding companies such as presentation generator Tome are paying for tools from OpenAI. One of the highest profile startups working on technology similar to OpenAI’s is also co-founded by Hoffman. He said that by stepping off the board, he can put to rest any downstream potential issues for both OpenAI and all Greylock portfolio companies.
Competition is increasing among companies aiming to remake content production as well as entire industries through artificial intelligence.
He remained OpenAI’s “ally” and wanted to work toward “elevating humanity” through technology. In response to the post, Sam Altman, OpenAI’s chief executive said that he looks forward to much more collaboration in the future.
