WhatsApp new feature that appears to be aimed at preventing nuisance callers is being worked on by the popular communication platform. A person can call any other registered user even if they don’t have their contact saved in their address book, because the service is based on phone numbers. When the new feature is eventually rolled out by the WhatsApp, it could prevent unwanted callers from disturbing users.
The code for a feature that will allow users to silence calls from unknown numbers is in the latest version of the beta version of WhatsApp for Android, according to feature tracker WABetaInfo. This new feature appears to be in development, unlike other upcoming features that are currently available for testing. The service also shared a picture of Silence unknown callers feature that is located in the settings menu, this option allows to silence calls from phone numbers that are not in the users’ address book. This feature will supposedly silence calls from unknown users, but the user will still be notified that an unknown caller has attempted to reach them. Users can always choose to call back an unknown caller if they leave a message on the service.
The setting could be used to protect users in Communities where the phone number of the creator is always visible, according to the feature tracker. There is no word by the WhatsApp when the new setting will be introduced. After the Android, it is expected that the feature will make its way to iOS and the desktop app too.
