Porsche’s pilot plant has produced a debut batch of e-Fuel; a synthetic fuel from water and carbon dioxide; in Punta Arenas, Chile. The Volkswagen Group has a focus on electric vehicles (EVs) and has been working with partners on alternative liquid fuels for some time.
Porsche aims to find a double-e path that includes e-Fuels-powered cars and pure EV’s. e-Fuel developed by Porsche is a feasible alternative that allows internal-combustion-engine vehicles to operate nearly CO2-neutral.
By 2025, after the completion of the trial period, the plant will increase the production tenfold and by the end of this decade, it claimed that the new plant would have generated up to 145 million gallons of e-fuel.
According to Porsche, the initial test production containing the 128,000 liters of fuel will be sold and used for promotion. The German sportscar manufacturer’s Experience Centers worldwide will use e-Fuel in vehicles to allow fans to burn e-Fuel instead of fossil fuels on the track.
